Information for staff who are struggling to perform job duties due to chronic illness or injury.

What can I do if I have a medical condition that is making it hard to attend work or do my job?

If you have already taken steps to manage your own health and need more assistance, the Absence and Disability Management team is here to help. If you are off work, you can connect with us at askDM@fraserhealth.ca.

If you are still working, you can connect with us at attendance.support@fraserhealth.ca.

We will work with you and your union (if applicable) to explore access to supports that can assist in addressing your medical concerns and ability to work. We will connect you with a Disability Management team member who will work with you and your treatment providers to create plan that works for you.

How can the Absence and Disability Management team help me?

There are times when your mental or physical health may result in impairments that impact some aspects of your work, but do not require a complete absence from the workplace. If that is the case, we want to help.

We want to recognize your abilities and help you to remain in the workplace while you address your health challenges.

The Absence and Disability Management team supports employees experiencing a range of health concerns, including physical injuries, medical conditions, and mental health-related concerns. To provide effective support, we need to understand the nature of your medical condition and how it is affecting you, including your ability to work.

Plans will be individually created based on your specific needs. Services can include (but are not limited to) direct referrals to treatment providers and/or modifications to your hours or work duties.

If I’m working with the Absence and Disability Management team, is my medical information confidential?

The Absence and Disability Management Department is committed to protecting your privacy while supporting you with your medical concerns. Your manager will not receive medical information and will only be advised that you are working with our team. Any information shared with your manager will be limited to your work-related limitations or restrictions.

How can my manager help me?

Your manager, along with your Absence and Disability Management team member and union representative, if applicable, can support you in staying at work to the best of your ability. Once your specific limitations and restrictions are identified, your manager will be informed. If changes to your job are needed, your Absence and Disability Management team member will work with you, your union, and your manager to identify appropriate workplace options.
