Information for staff who are struggling to perform job duties due to chronic illness or injury

What can I do if I have a medical condition that is making it hard to attend work or do my job?

Fraser Health provides free employee resources and services intended to support you in managing your health and well-being. Visit fraserhealth.ca/yourhealthmatters.

If you have already taken steps to manage your own health and need more assistance, the Absence and Disability Management team is here to help. If you are off work, you can connect with us at askDM@fraserhealth.ca.

If you are still working, you can connect with us at attendance.support@fraserhealth.ca.

We will work with you and your union (if applicable) to explore access to supports that can assist in addressing your medical concerns and ability to work. We will connect you with a Disability Management team member who will work with you and your treatment providers to create plan that works for you.

How can the Absence and Disability Management team help me?

There are times when your mental or physical health may result in impairments that impact some aspects of your work, but do not require a complete absence from the workplace. If that is the case, we want to help.

We want to recognize your abilities, and help you to remain in the workplace while you address your health challenges.

The Absence and Disability Management team helps employees who are experiencing  any variety of health concern including physical injuries, medical issues and mental health concerns. In order to assist you successfully, we do need to understand the nature of your medical condition and the impact it is having on your life, including work.

Plans will be individually created based on your specific needs. Services can include (but are not limited to) direct referrals to treatment providers and/or modifications to your hours or work duties.

If I’m working with the Absence and Disability Management team, is my medical information confidential?

The Absence and Disability Management Department is here to protect your privacy while addressing your medical concerns. Your manager will not be provided with any medical information, only that you are working with the Absence and Disability Management team. Any information shared with your manager will be limited to information about any limitations or restrictions you may have.

How can my manager help me?

Along with your Absence and Disability Management team member and your union rep (if applicable), your manager is also available to support you to stay at work to the best of your ability. Once your specific limitations and restrictions have been determined, your manager will be advised. In the event that something within your job needs to change, your Absence and Disability Management team member will work with you, your union and your manager to determine appropriate options in the workplace.
