Research to Results Competition

Funding available

Two separate awards are available, one within each foundation funding stream. Successful projects may receive funding of up to $100,000 and must demonstrate a feasible pathway to meaningful implementation within 24 months of the funding start date.

Funding streams

Royal Columbian Hospital Foundation stream

Supports eligible projects based at:

• Royal Columbian Hospital
• Queen's Park Care Centre
• Community-based services supported by Royal Columbian Hospital Foundation

Surrey Hospitals Foundation stream

Supports eligible projects based at:

• Surrey Memorial Hospital
• Jim Pattison Outpatient and Surgery Centre
• Surrey care sites and community-based services supported by Surrey Hospitals Foundation

Applications should align with Fraser Health priorities and support one or more of the following areas:

Service delivery

Access to timely, coordinated care across the continuum. Research that improves access to care and transitions between emergency, acute, community, home health, home support and long-term care settings.

People

Workforce sustainability and team-based care. Research that supports staff and medical staff well-being, recruitment and retention, workload optimization and interdisciplinary care models.

Quality

Quality, safety and person-centred care. Research that improves clinical quality, patient safety, communication, care experience and outcomes for patients and families.

Community partnerships

Healthy aging and complex care needs. Research that improves care for older adults and populations with complex health needs, including frailty, dementia, chronic disease, palliative care and community-based care.

Financial stewardship

Health system efficiency and stewardship. Research that strengthens service delivery, resource utilization, operational efficiency and value within the health system.

To be eligible, projects must:

• Address a Fraser Health or Foundation strategic, operational or health care priority
• Focus on applied research with a clear pathway to implementation or uptake
• Include a Fraser Health staff or medical staff member as the primary applicant
• Be carried out primarily within the selected funding stream's sites, services, or communities
• Include a Fraser Health operational, clinical, or executive sponsor
• Demonstrate meaningful engagement with relevant partners, including patients, families, community members, clinicians, staff, researchers or operational leaders, where appropriate
• Be achievable and evaluable within the funding period
• Include a plan for sharing and applying results within Fraser Health

The FHR2 competition consists of three stages:

1. Letter of Intent (LOI)
   Applicants submit a Letter of Intent outlining their proposed project, anticipated impact, implementation potential and research team.
2. Idea pitch event
   Following review of LOIs, four teams from each funding stream will be invited to participate in an in-person Idea Pitch Event. Shortlisted teams will present their proposed project to an adjudication panel in a 10-15 minute presentation followed by a brief question-and-answer period.
3. Full application
   Selected teams will be invited to submit a full proposal for funding consideration.
