The Abbotsford Urgent and Primary Care Centre (UPCC) has been providing patient-centred care to the community since opening in 2020. With its newly expanded space now ready to support patients, the UPCC team is better equipped to deliver wrap-around care to the community.

The upgrades include a larger reception area, new patient triage area, private consultation room and three additional exam rooms, including one equipped with a ceiling lift to better support patients with mobility challenges. Three care bays have been added for services like vaccinations and wound care.

“The expanded area allows us to optimize capacity and better support our community,” says Michelle Rena, manager, Abbotsford UPCC. “With more room for our care team, we’re able to have more staff on site, which means enhanced care for our patients.”

The upgrades help create more comfortable care experiences for patients, while ensuring that the UPCC continues to grow with the needs of the community.

The expansion also strengthens the working environment for the UPCC’s multidisciplinary team of physicians, nurse practitioners and staff. The upgraded layout includes 12 new workstations for allied health and administrative team members, as well as a private phone room for confidential virtual consultations.

“Having ample space to work together improves communication between team members and helps everyone focus on delivering the best possible care to our community,” explains Michelle.

Together, these additions enable the UPCC to provide comprehensive care and support for more patients who are unable to see a primary care provider but require attention within 12 to 24 hours for medical concerns that are not life-threatening.

When asked which upgrades she is most excited about, Michelle shares, “I love the larger waiting room and the new triage area located right at the entrance. This redesigned layout allows staff to easily see and connect with patients as soon as they arrive, ensuring a more comfortable, welcoming experience for those seeking care.”

In the coming weeks, additional work will take place to deconstruct the previous reception area and convert it into an expanded office space.

The UPCC is located at #100-2692 Clearbrook Road and provides urgent care seven-days-a-week from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. For more information on accessing services at one of Fraser Health’s Urgent and Primary Care Centres, visit fraserhealth.ca/upcc.
