The Czorny Alzheimer Centre is a secure setting designed to provide psychological security and comfort through six home-like cottage living spaces: Rose Garden, Sweet Pea, Pansy Lane, Poppy Place, Lavender Way, and Sunflower Garden. The environment serves to enrich the residents’ lives through activities appropriate for people with Alzheimer’s disease. The centre is sited in the quiet serenity of a small country street and local farms. The gardens at Czorny provide a beautiful backdrop for walking and visiting. Operated by Fraser Health.

How do I access residential care?

Access to subsidized residential care units is through a Home Health assessment. For more information on subsidized units, contact the Home Health office nearest you. Please do not contact the Operator directly regarding subsidized units.

Building amenities

The six cottages feature circular walkways, accessible family kitchens, living rooms, fireplace, secure outdoor patios and laundry rooms.

Accreditation status

YES: Nov 2010 through Nov 2013.
Accreditation is an external peer review process to assess and improve the services health care organizations provide to their patients and clients, based on standards of excellence set by Accreditation Canada or the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF).

Philosophy of care

We create a family atmosphere to ensure the highest standards of dementia care are practiced in a creative, dynamic home and community. The Czorny ‘family’ includes residents, families, staff, physicians, volunteers, Board Members and the Czorny partners. Our goal is to create a nurturing, culturally sensitive climate where all family members have the ability to influence decisions and promote joy, vibrancy and hope for the future while recognizing everyone’s abilities and needs. The Centre values research and education, and supports life-long learning creating opportunities both for mentoring and to be mentored.

Type of accommodation

Total beds: 72; 72 publicly subsidized residential care beds.

Basics include an electric bed, a small three-drawer dresser, bedside table, and all required linens.

You may also bring a small TV and a small personal chair from home. Pictures and wall hangings are encouraged.

Items to bring include clothing; however, closet space is minimal and seasonally-appropriate clothing is best; alternate season’s clothing should be kept off-site by family.


Residents pay 80% of their after-tax income which covers the cost of food and accommodation.

Special recreation opportunities

Social recreation and activity programs are provided seven days a week.


We cannot accommodate motorized wheelchairs or scooters.

Pet policy

The residence has a resident rabbit, two cats, fish and a pet bird. Many community guests bring their pets for regular visits.

Smoking policy

Smoking is not permitted in or outside the building.

Safety/security features

The exits are all card-activated access. Residents at risk for elopement, despite security measures, are encouraged to be registered with the Alzheimer Society Wandering Registry.

Neighbourhood/community amenities

Situated a short distance from a main thoroughfare, there is a local bus route and recreation services nearby.

Facility-specific restrictions

Provides 24-hour professional nursing services to people who are no longer able to stay at home safely. Specializes in dementia care.

Any other amenities

Other specialized services include music therapy, occupational therapy, foot care, social work, physiotherapy, recreation therapy and clinical nutrition. We have beautiful gardens, a spa, hair salon, ASBC resource centre, and large entertainment and meeting area.
