How do I access residential care?

Access to subsidized residential care units is through a Home Health assessment. For more information on subsidized units, contact the Home Health office nearest you. Please do not contact the Operator directly regarding subsidized units.

Small neighbourhoods each have its own dining room, lounge, recreation area and various lounge spaces.

We have multi-denomination services, including hymn sings, provided by in-house, community and family members.

Accreditation status

NONE.
Accreditation is an external peer review process to assess and improve the services health care organizations provide to their patients and clients, based on standards of excellence set by Accreditation Canada or the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF).

Philosophy of care

Brookside Lodge embraces a resident-centered philosophy of care.  We provide and support quality-of-life care that encourages our residents to make meaningful choices and participate in more purposeful activities. Our ultimate goal is the achievement of increased satisfaction in daily life. Staff work in collaboration with the residents and family members to determine what works well for them and in the process create an environment of home.

Type of accommodation

Total beds: 89; 89 publicly subsidized residential care beds. Rooms are equipped with ceiling lifts.

Basics include an electric bed, a small bedside table, an armoire for personal clothing and all required linens.

You may also bring limited furniture may be accommodated following discussion with staff to prevent overcrowding and ensure safety.

Cost

Residents pay 80% of their after-tax income which covers the cost of food and accommodation.

Special recreation opportunities

Recreation programs are available seven days a week and include bus outings in the community.  Opportunities include exercises, board games, social visits, entertainers, spiritual programs, pet visits and more.

Accessibility

We cannot accommodate motorized scooters at this time. We are wheelchair accessible and are elevator-equipped for access to other floors.

Pet policy

Brookside Lodge is pet friendly and home to an assortment of cats, birds and a bunny.  In addition, many community pets visit regularly.

Smoking policy

Smoking is available in a designated outdoor area only.

Safety/security features

All neighbourhoods are secured with coded key pads, and there are several secured outdoor areas. Call system installed in all rooms and common areas.

Neighbourhood/community amenities

Brookside Lodge is situated near all commercial, service and cultural centres and Willowbrook Mall. Major health care facilities are just moments away. Located on a main public transit route.

Facility-specific restrictions

Provides 24-hour professional nursing services to seniors who are no longer able to stay at home safely.

Any other amenities

Specialized services include geriatric psychiatry, occupational therapy, physiotherapy and rehabilitation, dental hygiene, foot care, hair care and clinical nutrition counseling.  Regular volunteers of all ages add to the enrichment of our residents’ days.
