Volunteers are important members of the health care team. They offer service and support to our patients, families and visitors, while enhancing patient care and the overall experience at Delta Hospital and Mountain View Manor.
Adult Opportunities (19+)
- B.C. Pets and Friends / St. John Ambulance Pet Therapy: Visit with patients, families, visitors and staff who need a little pet connection in long-term care. We are looking for Volunteer Pet teams who are available on Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday.
- Medicine 1:1 visit: Make social visits with patients in acute care. This role is designed for great listeners and even better conversationalists. 3- hour weekly shifts.
- Musical volunteers: Entertain residents in Long-term care and in the hospital on special occasions. Must audition for Volunteer Resources to show skillset and comfort performing.
- ER Host: Work in the Emergency Room supporting staff and patients. Must be unflappable in a crisis. 3-hour weekly shifts Morning, Afternoon and Evening spaces available.
- Welcome desk volunteers: Volunteers assist patients and site guest to navigate their way throughout the Delta Hospital campus. Volunteers in this role must be very comfortable with approaching people and problem solving. Exceptional customer service and communication skills are required for this role. 2–4-hour weekly
- Mountain View Manor: Visit and participate in recreation activities with the residents 1:30-3:30pm (weekdays only currently)
- Surgical Daycare: Escort and support patients and staff in Day Surgery. 3- hour weekly morning or afternoon shifts.
- Real Time Patient Experience Survey Volunteers: spend time with patients in ER and Acute care capturing their experiences on an iPad. Very Flexible role 2–3-hour weekly shifts.

Requirements
Volunteers must meet the following requirements to be a successful candidate:
- Minimum age: 19 years for adult programs, 16 years for Summer Youth Program July/Aug 2025 and VolunTEENs Jan -June 2026
- Minimum commitment of six months
- Proficient in English (verbal and written)

Youth Opportunities (16-19)
Summer Youth Program: Closed until June 2, 2025
- This highly competitive eight-week program is for youth to work with recreation staff in long-term care and assigned duties in acute care. Interviews will take place at a future date Applications must be submitted under the youth application portal.
- The Summer Youth portal will open June 2 - June 11. Closing time for accepting applications will be 5 p.m. on June 11.
Requirements
Volunteers must meet the following requirements to be a successful candidate:
- Age: 16 - 19 years. Parent/Legal guardian consent is required under the age of 18.
- Minimum commitment: July 2 - August 30, 2025. Weekly attendance for two-hour shifts: 10:00 a.m. -12:00 p.m. or 1:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m.
- Mandatory orientation for successful candidates: TBD from 4:00 p.m. - 7:30 p.m.
What will you receive at the end of the Summer Youth Program:
- After completing a minimum of 20 hours you will qualify for a standard reference letter from the program.
- Direct admission (if desired) into the VolunTEEN program(which will begin in January 2026) if you live in Delta or attend a Delta Secondary school without having to interview.
- Hospital experience can help you decide if a medical career is right for you.
- A sense of pride in helping your community.
Application process
- Submit applications prior to June 11, 5 p.m. Please note only those with listed availability will be considered for interviews. If you have not listed your summer availability, please ensure you do so on your application prior to June 11.
- Invitations will be sent out June 11 for interviews to accepted applicants.
- If you receive an invitation for an interview, it will take place between June 16 and June 19 between the timeframe of 3:30 p.m. - 5:30 p.m. or 5:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. Please note this will be the only times offered for interviews for this program and spaces will book up quickly.
- The results of the interviews will be shared June 20, 2025, by 4 p.m.
- Screening will be done- Criminal Record Check and two written reference letters will be required at this point. Online Learning courses will be required prior to orientation.
- The orientation will take June 26 from 4 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. This is mandatory and you cannot participate in the program if you are unable to attend.
- Summer Youth will begin on the Week of July 2 and run until August 31.
