Volunteers are important members of the health care team. They offer service and support to our patients, families and visitors, while enhancing patient care and the overall experience at Langley Memorial Hospital and long term care.
Opportunities (19+)
Please note: Applications for volunteers aged 19 and up will open in Fall 2025 (please check back in September 2025).
Requirements
Volunteers must meet the following requirements to be a successful candidate:
- A current criminal record check and references
- Minimum age: 19 years (excludes VolunTEEN Program)
- Minimum commitment of six months
- Proficient in English (verbal and written)
- An email account
Adult application process
Thank you for your interest in volunteering at Langley Memorial Hospital. At this time, we are currently not accepting applications for Adult Volunteers.

Are you ready to volunteer?
Please take the time to consider if volunteering with us is the right decision for you. A minimum of six months commitments and 75 hours are required prior to qualifying for a reference. The onboarding process takes between two to six weeks depending on when you apply. Please note there is a mandatory in person weekday orientation scheduled monthly that you must attend before starting your volunteer role.
Applications must be received online and online learning modules are required. If you are not computer proficient please ask a friend or family to help you navigate the online learning system. These requirements support excellent care and provide you with a good foundation for volunteering in health care. We appreciate you taking the time to consider if this is the right choice for you.
Opportunities (16-19)
Summer Youth Program
This highly competitive eight-week program is for youth to work with recreation staff in long-term care and assigned duties in acute care.
Note: youth volunteers must complete one mandatory shift at Penny Pinchers thrift store in Downtown Langley.
Requirements
Volunteers must meet the following requirements to be a successful candidate:
- Between the ages of 16 – 18. Parent/Legal guardian consent is required under the age of 18.
- Live in Langley or attend a Langley High School
- Able to attend a mandatory orientation on June 19, 2025
- Interact well in a team environment
- Are a warm, welcoming and compassionate person
- Able to commit to one four hour shift
VolunTEEN Opportunities – 16 to 18 years
VolunTEENs with our Summer Youth Program will facilitate Real Time Patient Experience Surveys (RTPES). Offer a friendly, warm and welcoming greeting to patients, visitors and staff. Provide wayfinding and pertinent information and friendly social contact with patients and residents in the hospital. Assists recreation staff with activities and programs in long-term care.

Incomplete or late applications will not be considered. Only candidates who qualify for available positions will be contacted for an interview.
- Step 1 Application: If selected for an interview you will be contacted.
- Step 2 Interview: You will be contacted regarding the status of your application in the VolunTEEN program.
- Step 3 Screening: Criminal record check and two references will be required.
- Step 4 Orientation: Mandatory completion of new volunteer orientation curriculum and group orientation session.
- Step 5 Placement: Training and placement following orientation.
Before you start your application please note the following:
The application will require detailed information on your past work and volunteer experience, personal and business references and emergency contact information. It will take approximately 20 minutes to complete.
Youth Program
- Experience in a hospital setting (acute and long-term care).

- After successful completion of the program - receive an official reference letter.
Current opportunities
- Langley Memorial Hospital Auxiliary Volunteer: Hospital Gift Shop and Penny Pinchers Thrift Store Opportunities.
- Emergency Host Volunteer: To provide exceptional customer service to hospital visitors who require information about the Emergency Department and the hospital in terms of way finding, comfort items, facilitate RTPES Survey and patient/resident/site information sharing in a warm and welcoming manner.
- Long-Term Care Social Volunteer: Visit and engage with residents in long-term care and Patient Assessment and Transition Home (PATH). Providing social interactions with patients and residents assisting recreation staff with activities and programs.
- Real Time Patient Experience Survey (RTPES): Support Fraser Health’s commitment to seek continuous feedback from clients/patients about their experience with care and service. Trained volunteers will assist in the completion of RTPES on electronic iPad application.
- Pet Therapy: offers a variety of benefits through the interaction between humans and animals. These benefits can include reduced stress, anxiety, and depression, improved mood, and increased social interaction.
- Welcome and Wayfinding Information Desk: Welcome and assist patients/visitors entering the hospital. Answer questions, provide information, and accompany people throughout the hospital as needed, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere.
