Volunteering at Peace Arch Hospital
Thank you for checking in to inquire about available volunteer opportunities at Peace Arch Hospital. We are now accepting applications to prepare for a Fall intake of volunteers. Interviews for placements will take place in mid – end July with anticipated start dates of mid August – early September.
Applicants should consider a long-term commitment of six months+ volunteering one time per week for up to three hours. A weekly consistent commitment is key to the success of all of our volunteer opportunities. We are looking for individuals who are available during regular business hours; we are not currently recruiting for evening or weekend opportunities.

Highlights of our volunteer opportunities
We involve volunteers in many areas across our hospital including, but not limited to (we are not typically recruiting for all of these positions at the same time):
- Acute care for the elderly
- Emergency department
- Facility wide volunteers including way finders and The Peace Arch PERK.
- Long-term care
- Mental Health and Substance Use
- Patient partners
- Therapy dog visiting teams – Please see below under the section partner organizations to see how you would qualify to volunteer here with your canine partner.
- Volunteer resource projects
Requirements
Volunteers must meet the following requirements to be a successful candidate:
- 18 years plus – applicants must be available to volunteer during regular business hours.
- Proficient in English
- Exhibits effective communication skills
- Able to commit to volunteering one-time-per-week for a few hours at a consistent day and time for a minimum of six months
- Your ability to successfully engage with our staff, patients and residents is especially important to us
- We are looking for volunteer candidates that live within reasonable proximity to Peace Arch Hospital

- Step 1 Application: Complete the application form online, include your resume if you have one. If you are contacted to interviews for available volunteer positions, and are offered a volunteer role you will then proceed with the following onboarding processes:
- Step 2 Screening: Criminal record check with the BC Ministry of Justice, an interview and two reference checks
- Step 3 Orientation: Complete an online orientation session for volunteers and attend a hospital orientation session
- Step 4 Placement: Training and placement will follow the orientation
Please note – due to the large volume of applications that we receive only candidates who are shortlisted for interviews will be contacted. We are looking for a six-month commitment, volunteering one time/week, however we will work with university student volunteers from May – August.
